At Aria Hotel Apartments, our favourite places are in the neighbourhood. South Melbourne is one of the areas the locals know about and we want to share with you!
South Melbourne isn’t complete without a trip to the South Melbourne Market. Operating since 1867 it offers a huge range of different stalls from bakers, butchers, grocers and fishmongers to fortune tellers, clothing and giftware. Open four days a week (Wed & Sat-Sun 8am-4pm; Fri 8am-5pm) and also for night markets from January to March with bands and booze.
If you take coffee very seriously, our favourite baristas are at St Ali. This warehouse-chic flagship in Yarra St, South Melbourne places a strong ethos on quality beans and unique brewing methods. Open 7am – 6pm, 365 days a year.
There are good Melbourne Pubs and then there are great Melbourne pubs – The Railway Hotel falls into the latter. It is relaxing with great décor and beer garden and an even better Pot and Parma at pub prices! Check this out at 80 Ferrars St, South Melbourne.
Jump on a tram and head for Albert Park. This 225-hectare park is great for a relaxing day overlooking the picturesque lake. Or if you’re up for something more active there is a network of walking and cycling trails, an 18-hole golf course, golf driving range and walking activities. It also has multiple picnic tables, barbeque areas, playgrounds and restaurants, perfect for a family day at the park all at Albert Rd, South Melbourne.
If you are still hungry then all locals know about Big Huey’s Diner.
Big Huey, star of Huey’s Kitchen and his restaurant in South Melbourne brings to Melbourne those US diner classics. With its red booths and jukebox it gives a 1950’s feel. If you’re looking for that stereotypical chilli dog, burgers and reubens this is the place to go at 315 Coventry St, South Melbourne.
Now this one isn’t exactly my favourite but it is with some of our staff – the Mine Escape Room at 12 Yarra Street South Melbourne. If you’re looking for some fun and adventure the Mine Escape Room is the place to go. Trapped in a mine you and your friends and family must work together to solve the puzzles and escape the room!
